Basement Bar Cabinet Ideas for NOVA Homes

Nine basement bar layouts we've built across Northern Virginia — wet bar, dry bar, and full entertainer bars with real pricing and cabinet ideas.

A basement bar is the single highest-ROI upgrade we add to Northern Virginia basement remodels.

Basement bar cost by type (2026, NOVA)

Type Typical Range Includes
Dry bar (no plumbing) $6,500 – $12,000 Cabinets, counter, beverage fridge
Wet bar (sink + fridge) $12,000 – $22,000 + plumbing, disposal, backsplash
Full entertainer bar $22,000 – $45,000+ + kegerator, dishwasher, ice maker, seating

Nine popular layouts

1. Straight-run wet bar (8–10 ft)

Sink center, upper glass cabinets, beverage fridge and dishwasher below. Fits almost any basement.

2. L-shape with seating overhang

Best for hosting — 12" counter overhang on the short leg for 3 stools.

3. Back-lit floating shelves

Skip upper cabinets. LED-lit floating shelves feel more like a real bar and show off bottles.

4. Peninsula bar

Divides an open basement. Great when the bar faces a lounge or TV area.

5. Under-stair bar

Turns dead space into a full dry bar. Cabinets to the ceiling, wine storage above.

6. Beverage center island

Central island with beverage fridge, ice maker, and seating. Good for larger basements.

7. Two-tone bar

Dark cabinets on the base (navy, black, forest green), light upper shelves. Rich, modern feel.

8. Full kitchenette bar

Sink, dishwasher, microwave, full-size fridge — basically a small second kitchen for in-law suites.

9. Kegerator + tap bar

For serious hosts. Under-counter kegerator, tap through a stainless drip tray in the counter.

Cabinet styles that work best

  • Slim shaker in dark paint (navy, forest, black) — reads modern and sophisticated.
  • White oak with black hardware — warm, current, high resale.
  • Glass-front uppers with LED — showcases barware.

Don't skip these

  • Under-counter LED strip — cheap, dramatic.
  • GFCI outlets every 4 feet — code + practical.
  • Sound-dampened dishwasher — you'll hear it in the basement otherwise.
  • Ice maker — the one thing people always add later at 2x the cost.
